Case study mod 3 ba 3200 | BA 3200 | Indiana Institute of Technology

Download the document below to read “The Ozone Threat: Managing with Uncertainty ” case (be sure to click the view/complete assignment link). Your answers must be based on ethical principles/issues contained in your textbook. You must refer to and cite ethical principles/issues in your textbook to support/justify your answers. You must number each course related ethical principles/issues for each case study question. Remember each case study question within each case study assignment must have three numbered and cited ethical principles/issues.  You must demonstrate your understanding of the course related ethical principles/issues in your textbook by applying these ethical principles/issues to the case study assignments. Simply providing your opinion is not sufficient and will result in no points.   After you have read the case, please answer the following questions:

  1. Describe the strategies which DuPont’s management used to respond to the ozone controversy before the 1978 ban. Identify the social costs and risks associated with these strategies and the populations that bore these costs and risks. Identify the social benefits deriving from these strategies and the groups that derived these benefits. In your judgment, did the social benefits outweigh the social costs and risks? Explain your answer fully.
  2. Evaluate the moral quality of DuPont’s strategies after 1978 in terms of (a) the utilitarian costs and benefits associated with those strategies as compared to other alternative strategies, (b) the moral rights of the various parties affected, and (c) the just or unjust way in which benefits and burdens were distributed among various populations by these strategies.

Deliverable Length:

5–7 PowerPoint slides with 200-250 word speaker notes

OBJECTIVES

As the newly hired human resources (HR) manager for a jewelry store, you have placed your initial focus on the areas of staffing and training development. During your organizational analysis, you discovered the following with regard to staffing and training:

  • Line managers are currently handling the recruiting and staffing functions. Each manager tends to follow different hiring practices. Some of the managers are reluctant to hand over the hiring of their staff to the HR department. Other managers feel burdened with the staffing responsibilities and are anxious to turn it over as quickly as possible. No job descriptions exist within the organization.
  • Upon hire, employees are given a 2-hour orientation session focusing on department policy and procedure. There is no additional training given, but rather, it is on the job training and learn as you go. There are no formal training classes and no management training programs.

You would like to obtain feedback from the line managers prior to making a presentation to the chief executive officer (CEO). Taking the above conditions into consideration, address the following questions in a presentation that you will deliver to a team of three to four line managers:

Staffing Function:

  • What are your preliminary recommendations with regard to centralizing the staffing function under the HR umbrella?
  • What will the new process look like?
  • With regard to this new staffing strategy, what challenges do you anticipate, and what is your plan to overcome those challenges?
  • How can you position this to demonstrate how this will impact the performance efforts of the organization?
  • What results do you anticipate?

Training and Development Function:

  • With regard to the training/development function, what preliminary recommendations would you make?
  • What challenges do you anticipate with this new employee development strategy, and what is your plan to overcome those challenges?
  • How can you position this decision to the CEO to demonstrate how this will impact the performance efforts of the organization?
  • What results do you anticipate?

Note: You are required to use a minimum of 2 scholarly references in your research. Ensure that citations and references are formatted in compliance with APA style.

Contextual analysis | Social Science homework help

The case analysis assignment will include a series of two papers based on a case study that are due throughout the semester at times indicated on the course Canvas site and the course schedule. These papers assess the student’s understanding and ability to integrate individual and family theories within a systems perspective. Using the case study, One Little Boy, students will construct a comprehensive view of a family experiencing difficulty. This task develops integrative and critical thinking necessary for generalist assessment and intervention at the micro level. This analysis should double spaced text, including appendices and references and should follow the format below.  It should be formatted in APA style regarding margins, headings, page numbers, font, reference list, appendices, and in-text citations.Paper 1: Contextual Analysis (10%)

  • Problem Statement.2-3 sentences that summarize the central problems. The summary may cross system levels, and succinctly identifies the crucial problems that contribute to the dilemma experienced by the client/family. This is not a question, but a statement that identifies a professional analysis of the essential problem(s) in the case. Work hard to analyze the situation and not just restate the dilemma, and identify what is causing it.
  • Contextual Analysis. 3-page (minimum) analysis of the central issues for this case. This should include an analysis of micro, mezzo, exo, macro and chrono systems using an ecological framework. In this case, it may help to think about issues between the social worker and client(s), functioning of the various systems, the context of the treatment, agency issues, and relationships between those involved in the case.
  • Biological/PhysicalDevelopment Analysis. 2-page (minimum) Utilizing knowledge of physicaldevelopment, identify the possible genetic, epigenetic and biological components contributing to the problem(s). Accurately assesses the subject’s current physical development with special attention to genetic and epigenetic issues. Use at least 3 relevant sources (other than the course text) from the past five years to support this portion of the analysis.
  • Reflection. 1-page (minimum) Provide a reflection on what YOU  learned in this analysis. Next, identify one social work competency below and describe how this will affect your practice with individual or family dynamics and/or development.  Your reflection can be written in first person.
  • Genogram & Ecomap. Construct a genogram and ecogram for the client/ family. These should be placed at the end of the paper as appendices (they are not part of the three- page analysis. Be as descriptive as possible about the larger system in which this client/family resides. A good resource for learning about genograms and ecomaps is found here:

Exercise 1: Data Interpretation

Dissolved oxygen is oxygen that is trapped in a fluid, such as water. Since many living organism requires oxygen to survive, it is a necessary component of water systems such as streams, lakes and rivers in order to support aquatic life. The dissolved oxygen is measured in units of ppm (parts per million). Examine the data in Table 4 showing the amount of dissolved oxygen present and the number of fish observed in the body of water the sample was taken from; finally, answer the questions below.

Post-Lab Questions

1.    What patterns do you observe based on the information in Table 4?

2.    Develop a hypothesis relating to the amount of dissolved oxygen measured in the water sample and the number of fish observed in the body of water.

3.    What would your experimental approach be to test this hypothesis?

4.    What would be the independent and dependent variables?

5.    What would be your control?

6.    What type of graph would be appropriate for this data set?  Why?

7.    Graph the data from Table 4: Water Quality vs. Fish Population (found at the beginning of this exercise).

8.    Interpret the data from the graph made in Question 7.

Exercise 2: Experimental Variables

Determine the variables tested in the each of the following experiments. If applicable, determine and identify any positive or negative controls.

Observations

1.    A study is being done to test the effects of habitat space on the size of fish populations. Different sized aquariums are set up with six goldfish in each one. Over a period of six months, the fish are fed the same type and amount of food. The aquariums are equally maintained and cleaned throughout the experiment. The temperature of the water is kept constant. At the end of the experiment the number of surviving fish is surveyed.

A.    Independent Variable:

B.    Dependent Variable:

C.   Controlled Variables/Constants:

D.   Experimental Controls/Control Groups:

2.    To determine if the type of agar affects bacterial growth, a scientist cultures E. coli on four different types of agar. Five petri dishes are set up to collect results:

§  One with nutrient agar and E. coli

§  One with mannitol-salt agar and E. coli

§  One with MacConkey agar and E. coli

§  One with LB agar and E. coli

§  One with nutrient agar but NO E. coli

All of the petri dishes received the same volume of agar, and were the same shape and size. During the experiment, the temperature at which the petri dishes were stored, and at the air quality remained the same. After one week the amount of bacterial growth was measured.

A.    Independent Variable:

B.    Dependent Variable:

C.   Controlled Variables/Constants:

D.   Experimental Controls/Control Groups:

Exercise 3: Testable Observations

Determine which of the following observations (1-6) are testable. For those that are testable answer the following questions:
